Teamwork and Fun: Review of 1970’s Groovy Heist

If you’re looking for a fun, upbeat escape room with great teamwork opportunities, the 1970’s Groovy Heist at Escape Room Lancaster is such a blast!

I’ve done several rooms at this location, and this one definitely did not disappoint—especially as a team-building experience.

Theme & Immersion

This room fully embraced the 70’s vibe, and it made the experience so much fun. From the props to the overall atmosphere, everything felt cohesive and playful.

Immersion Rating: 5/5

What We Loved:

  • Fun, energetic theme
  • Well-designed props
  • A lighthearted, engaging atmosphere

It’s one of those rooms where you can’t help but smile while playing.

Puzzle Quality

This room included a mix of:

  • Letter locks
  • Number locks
  • Directional Locks
  • Logic and Math Puzzles

There was plenty to do, and the puzzles were spread out in a way that kept all six of us actively involved. Some puzzles were fairly easy to solve and others took some time to figure out.

Puzzle Difficulty: Moderate

Puzzle Rating: 4/5

We especially loved how the puzzles encouraged teamwork—no one was standing around waiting for something to do.

Team Experience

This was a fantastic room for a group! With six players, everyone had something to work on, and we were constantly communicating and collaborating.

Best Team Size: 4–6 players

Highlight:
Working together seamlessly—and escaping without needing any hints!

Game Master & Hints

The game master was excellent. We were given options for how we wanted hints delivered, which was a great touch.

We chose to have them ask if we were ready for a hint—and ended up not needing any at all, which made the experience even more fun and satisfying.

Customer Service Rating: 5/5

Set Design & Atmosphere

Set Design Rating: 5/5

The props were well-themed and really brought the 1970’s heist concept to life.

One Issue:
One puzzle wasn’t functioning properly. Thankfully, it was clearly marked with instructions, but it did interrupt the flow since we had to ask for help to reset the puzzle multiple times to continue.

Lobby & Overall Experience

The lobby was welcoming and comfortable, and the staff was incredibly friendly. We arrived early and were even allowed to hang out while we waited, which made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable from the start.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Fun and immersive 70’s theme
  • Great for team building
  • Plenty of puzzles for larger groups
  • Flexible hint system
  • Friendly staff and welcoming lobby
  • Escapable without hints

Cons

  • One puzzle malfunctioned and disrupted game play.
